GPs work to rule

Posted on:

You may have heard on the news that GP surgeries across England will e taking action from Thursday 1st August 2024.  The reason for this, is to dispute the 2024/25 GP contract changes, in the hope that we can improve and rebuild general practice.

The BMA (British Medical Association) has been in talks with the government over the last couple of weeks in hope to rebuild a more constructive relationship with the new government and o remain open about ensuring GPs secure the contact that both general practice staff and patients deserve.

How will the Sabden and Whalley Medical Group support the BMA?

The BMA have listed a number of ways in which GP surgeries across England can get involved and each of these actions have been carefully considered to ensuring practices maintain high levels of patient safety.

The Sabden and Whalley Medical Group will be taking the following actions as of Thursday 1st August 2024:

  • Limit daily patient contacts per clinician to the UEMO recommended safe maximum of 25.
  • Switch off GPConnect Update Record Functionality that permits the entry of coding into the GP clinical record by third-party providers.
  • Stop rationing referrals, investigations and admissions provided t is clinically appropriate to do so.
  • Returning inappropriate hospital requests.

How can our patients get involved to support their general practice?

There are many ways in which the patients at the Sabden and Whalley Medical Group can get involved to support the action such as:

  • Join our PPG (Patient Participation Group).  To sign up to our PPG please speak to a member of our Reception Team.
  • Speak to others within the local community to help spread the word on the struggles facing general practice.
